A twinkly light wedding at Alnwick Treehouse (Eric & Alexis)

I was thrilled when Alexis got in touch to book me for her wedding to Eric, at the Alnwick Treehouse. It is an absolutely magical venue set within the trees next to Alnwick Gardens with so much character.

The couple had an intimate wedding with a bigger one planned in New York for later. 

Their two dogs were a big part of the day, as this was a key part of how they got together. They met walking their dogs in a park in New York city when Eric was working over there. They even walked down the aisle! 

The gorgeous flowers were from C&C Florals and featured creams and soft pinks and purples.  

The amazing Lisa Cameron did the hair for the bride, bridesmaid and mother of the bride. Dani.MUA  was the fabulous make up artist for the day. It was lovely to work with these two talented wedding suppliers again.

 The couple hired the treehouse exclusively so that they could have a quiet, intimate celebration, and the ceremony itself took place under a beautiful fairy light arch that is a key feature in the treehouse restaurant itself.

The couple welcomed their guests to the reception with mojitos in and around The Potting Shed.

Just as we were about to do the couples photographs torrential rain came out of no-where. I quickly changed my initial idea and lighting set up, and borrowed a groomsmen to hold a brolly over me and my kit (thanks for that!), and backlit the couple with flash, freezing all of the raindrops. I think this photograph would look awesome printed really large! 

To fit with the American tradition, the couple had their first dance prior to their meal.

Barter Books Alnwick (Chris & Katy's Pre-wedding shoot)

Going back to October 2012, I finally got a chance to visit Barter Books in Alnwick, Northumberland. It's an amazing second hand book shop, set inside the old train station. It is quite famous for another reason as to being a great book shop. It was in this very shop that the Keep Calm and Carry on poster was re-discovered hiding in a box of books and ended up being popular around the world! It is a very quirky place, and as soon as I walked in I started coming up with ideas for a shoot there in future. I dropped them an email afterwards and they said they'd be happy for me to take some photographs there. 

I hadn't found the perfect couple to photograph there, until I met Chris & Katy, nearly 18 months later. When we first met up to chat about their wedding, they revealed they both love books and met working in a branch of Waterstones. Well I immediately suggested my idea of having a pre-wedding shoot in Barter Books, so not only was I delighted that they booked me (hehe, pun!) to photograph their wedding, they also loved the idea and went with it!

We chose to pop up to their wedding venue, Ellingham Hall first. This was to look around as they wanted to come up with some ideas with me there, given that they hadn't seen the grounds in daylight before.  The other reason was to spend 10 minutes or so for them to feel a bit more at ease in front of the camera first, as it was the middle of the school holidays and we knew Barter Books would be busy! Well it worked, Katy & Chris were fabulous to work with and I was thrilled that I finally got a chance to shoot in this amazing place. I did research before and couldn't find any other examples of a shoot like this in Barter Books yet, so will be interesting to see if I get further request from any book-loving couples in future :D Thanks  so much to Natalie, a great photographer and friend who assisted me on the shoot too.

 I cannot wait to be part of Katy & Chris' wedding next year..... I hear there may be a bit of a book theme running through the day, eek!!

A gorgeous two bride wedding at Matfen Hall (Nikki & Catherine)

I was absolutely thrilled to be part of Nikki & Catherine's special day in May at Matfen Hall  in Northumberland. The couple are huge football fans and chose a black and white colour scheme for their wedding to celebrate their love of Newcastle United. 

Nikki's dress & and the bridesmaid dresses came from Mao Couture Bridal. Donna Ganley from Powder and Pin Ups in Sunderland did the make up for both brides.

The wedding bouquets and centre pieces were from floral expert Jean Hepple.  they chose white gerberas to match with their black and white theme. 

By Wendy Unique Stationery created the table plan, names and menus, in a Gatsby style. The tables were name after the ladies favourite drinking places!

Catherine & Nikki had a lovely tiered cheese cake from Churchmouse Cheeses, topped with their homemade fabulous wooden peg doll toppers, even featuring their cats. 

Both Dads made lovely speeches, and their maid of honour, Roisin made a fabulous speech featuring props, lots of funny moments and even a message from Alan Robson from Metro Radio! 

Catherine wrote a poem for Nikki which she read out. All the speeches were fab, funny and moving!

After the meal we popped outside for some photographs in the beautiful evening light.

Instead of a traditional first dance, Nikki & Catherine chose '500 miles' to dance to with all of their family and friends joining in and freestyling.
